Selection has been a bit flakey for me as well, but I've discovered that 
exiting and restarting my X session (sometimes takes a few rounds) will 
put it in a state where it starts working.

Regarding selections not appearing in the klipper menu, this seems chronic 
in KDE4 and not specific to konsol.  I see it constantly with any and all 
applications.  Sometimes I have to select text in, e.g. xterm or rxvt 
several times before it shows up in klipper.

There's much that I like about KDE4, but some of these basic operational 
glitches need to be taken a bit more seriously than they seem to be.
