.... I have now upgraded the kernel to 2.6.17-1.2139_FC4 and am still getting the same problems. Does anyone know of a way of trying to isolate the issue to kernel, software, cable, card, camera (or any combination thereof!).
Any suggestions appreciated.

I'm new to firewire, having only just bought a firewire pcmcia card that is based on the NEC chipset (I bought this card after checking the HCL).
I'm having problems getting the card to work with my DV camcorder (intermittant capture in Kino, Kino freezes when entering Preference set up until I unplug the camcorder and re connect it, gscanbus shows the connection but sometimes freezes when accessing the camcorder details) - the issues are various and before going into them in more detail here, is there any way I can ascertain if the problem is:
The kernel revision (as I've read that there are some issues with certain kernels and 1394)
The card that I've bought (it was cheap!)
My DV camera - although reliable, it is old.
Is there a set of tests that I can use to eliminate the elements above? I don't want to buy another card, unless I know the problem is the card - ditto for the camcorder.
Any advice is appreciated..
PS I have also tried the Kino list to see if there was any advice forthcoming from there.
