Well, those that haven't caught up won't get mem1394 devices that'll use
this functionality.

The distros are still not fully caught up on usage of udev to dynamically
create device files for ieee1394 and the information about how to create them
manually has been around for a while on more sites than linux1394.org. I just
think it would be hostile to users to change the minor numbers already in
usage today. OTOH, I think we can start the process of removing dv1394 now by
first submitting a deprecation patch. That would soon leave only video1394
with reserved minors.
