Subject: Re: lacie d2 bigger disk no longer being read by 2.6.12.1 (it used to work, but the drive is fine as tested on another system with 2.6.11.11) - msg#00055
List: linux.kernel.firewire.user
I upgraded the laptop that was running 2.6.11.11 to 2.6.12.5 also and
it works fine with the lacie. I think the FW on the mobo got fried
somehow and I'm thinking about getting an addon fw400/800 card,
probably this: http://www.cdwg.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=812328
startech 3port 1394b .

upgrading the kernel to 2.6.12.5 didn't help.

I think so too. The logs in your other post from today show either
failed self ID phase (early self-configuration of the bus) or many
repeated bus resets which disrupt the connection to the disk. The only
logical explanation is malfunctioning hardware.
You should check all cable connections to the motherboard. The first one
too look at would be a FireWire jumper cable that goes from the
motherboard to a front panel or back panel --- if there is one. But
other cables that have nothing to do with FireWire could interfere with
functions like FireWire too, if improperly connected.
