newbie question - data files

Could someone tell me where non-Mail data files are located?  I have a
desktop and a desktop-server, and would like one set of files to access.
Presently, my server /home is imported to the desktop by nfs.  It is not
imported as /home but as /server/home, with several directories in ~/
imported.

I have linked ~/Mail to the server but would like to link the whole
thing.
