You would be well-advised to upgrade to more recent packages. There ought to be at least KDE 3.3 available, and what with KDE 3.4 already some months old it might be available too. I don't think you need the udev stuff -- as long as your Pilot is consistently getting /dev/ttyUSB0 assigned, you'll be fine. Anyway, the usual troubleshooting applies: try to use pilot-xfer to get a listing of the device to check that communication works at all. Type: pilot-xfer -p /dev/ttyUSB0 -L but don't hit enter yet.
