Spell check not finding aspell

Hi All,

I am running Kubuntu Hoary with Kontact 1.1 and KMail 1.8.  Whenever I try the 
Tools menu for Spelling, I get

ISpell/Aspell could not be started. Please make sure you have ISpell or Aspell 
properly configured and in your PATH.

However, from a prompt...

tim@spike:~$ echo $PATH
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games
tim@spike:~$ type aspell
aspell is /usr/bin/aspell

Does anyone have any ideas?
