Thanks! But how do I add the extra fields? I tried importing a whole
large bunch of fields in a csv file, and could not see many of them
in the Kontact (contacts) 'Modify View' choices at all? Only the
fields I could allocate could later be chosen for use.

Choose 'New Contact' or 'Edit Contact', go to the tab 'Custom Fields'
of the appearing dialog and add the fields you need.

Like I already said in my previous email, you _can't_ import fields
yet and the fields you created inside KAddressBook won't appear in
the csv import dialog. We added custom field support late in the 3.X
development cycle, so it wasn't integrated well.
Ciao, Tobias

Hi Tobias, Thanks for the explanation. I think I begin to understand. yes I now see that the extra fields -
'Edit Contact', Custom Fields are applied to all contacts, which is useful.

And I see now about not being able to import extra fields in CSV.

(I notice too that the custom fields do not export in the csv either).

There are 43 (?) fields avaiable for kontact import (csv), and I have trimmed the data csv to this, however (at least it is worth asking..... :-) ) - What I would like to do just now is, ok, to stay with the 43 fields, and change the Kontact Field Names (for example from, say, 'Home Address Street', to be 'Home Address 1' etc etc). Is this possible at present?
(The fields I want to import will squeeze in but the names are misleading).

I am not a programmer, but I could happily edit text files (at a push I might consider editing source, in the future maybe).

My exploration in the .kde files has not found anything which suggests this is possible, I would be grateful for your comments here.

PS
Any thoughts about the pace of development on the import facility, and including the changing of field names too please?

tia
