I upgraded 7.3 with 8.0 and it worked fine, if you like the stock install of
RH 8. It ran fine, but I found it to be a confusing mismatch of KDE, Gnome
and RH tools that caused me to toss my cookies.

I think the upgrade is the way to go if you have a custom configured system,
as everything on mine, the printer, samba, and all my export/import
filesystems.

I was running ext3 under 7.3, and 8.0 wants all to go to ext3, but you may
choose to keep ext2. That was confusing for me, and I now find myself running
with ext2. Watch out. Pick ext3.

If you want to do it, I would recommend that you install all the *-devel-*
rpms for everything. I think that this can be chosen in an upgrade by doing a
custom install and choosing the "development" packages as part of the
install.

Good luck.

On the side of the software box, in the 'System Requirements' section, it said
'Requires Windows 95 or better'. So I installed Linux and lived happily ever
after.
