How to know screen height with out desktop panel ?

Hi ,

I am developing a application on suse linux 8.0. I want to know the 
screen height, I am using the function "HeightOfScreen", but it gives 
total height of screen, but I want to know effective height (with out 
desktop bottom panel), how I will get ?. Other wise how I will get the 
desktop panel height ?
