Re:Is Mandrake linux FREE?: msg#00407kde.linux
Thomas N wrote: I want to download Mandrake Linux from Mandrake website but it asks me to join the club and pay certain amount of money before I can download the software. Should Linux be free? Linux IS available free of charge, but under the GPL anyone is free to charge for it, too -- you don't have to get it from them if you don't want to pay, get it somewhere else. Mandrake Linux can be downloaded without the Club advertising from any number of mirror sites; even on their own web site you can get around the club advertisement. Finally keep in mind that "Free Software" does not primarily and necessarily mean "free of charge" (or "free as in beer"), but free of unnecessary license restrictions. ___________________________________________________ This message is from the kde-linux mailing list.
