You are correct, this does NOT make sense.  I don't know if you need all 
of that stuff, but you have the filesystem set to: "auto" and you have: 
"user" in the parameter list.  So, a user account should be able to 
mount a floppy with any standard file system.

You could change the parameters to those in my previous posting and see 
if that helps.

I would take a wild guess that the "*.desktop" for that icon is wrong.

Can you right click it and select: "Open With..." and then select an 
editor?  It should look like this:

[Desktop Entry]
Dev=/dev/fd0
FSType=default
Icon=3floppy_mount
MountPoint=/mnt/floppy
ReadOnly=false
Type=FSDevice
UnmountIcon=3floppy_unmount

Check first the "Type=".

I think that you have, perhaps, a URL format: "*.desktop" file.
