I'm doing the same also on a stock RH 8.0 machine. Get exactly the same 
errors. I managed to get around the first problem adjusting rpmInstall.h so 
the if is always true on line 37. But that can't be the correct solution. 
Something else must be wrong.

BTW kdeadmin 3.0.99 (RC3) has the same problem.
