IMO, using the external tool feature to call a script that changes the disk
file is in a way abuse -- at least my idea with the feature was to call GUI
apps that could relate to the document, such as the sample tools we distribute.

To manipulate a document, I'd suggest the "KDE Scripts" feature, which can be
used to feed the text of a open document through a shell command (ie. indent)
and replace the document text using DCOP.

I have plans for adding a feature that will allow you to run scripts (dcop or
other) in the built in terminal or with the output shown in a message view,
that would better fit changing the text of a document.

In any case, manipulating the disk file should be avoided whenever it is
possible to manipulate the text in the editor.

That said, I won't mind adding options to save all or save current to the
external tools feature, and I agree that save and save all should be available
to DCOP scripting.
