BTW I've been assuming that everyone is familiar with NetBeans. For those who 
aren't it started life as a Java IDE and that's still its primary functions, 
but it has branched considerably to new areas, notability C/C++ and PHP, and 
they are by no means 2nd cousins to Java now.

Itself is written in Java/Swing so suffers from a non-native look on KDE but 
its tolerable.
