Dynamically add/remove KAction with toolbar?

I want to be able to add a KAction with an embedded line-edit dynamically to a 
toolbar when I click on another icon. That is, I have done all the set-up for 
the KAction except for the "actioncollection()->addAction(...)" which I do in 
another actions slot. Trouble is, it doesn't work. I am using the XML GUI 
framework; does this mean the toolbar is set in concrete?
