Subject: Re: WMA 1.1

Minor clarification - the transport of SMS messages is likely to use the
on device SMS Inbox
for storage of inbound messages. e.g. if you designate a message to a
port that does not have
a registered listener, then the user could see the undelivered message
in their Inbox. The port
number provides a routing mechanism so messages can be delivered to
specific applications
waiting for that input. Unlike port numbers in IP connections, the port
assigned for SMS messages
is actually part of the user data header.

Hello,

1) with WMA 1.1 (JSR-120) API's can we access native SMS inbox/Outbox?

No, you can't: midlet are notified only of the messages sent to a specified
port they're listening on. And they cannot listen on the standard sms inbox
port

2) Can we check that the message is 'Unread' or 'Read' message?

You do not have access to a message store, you are notified when a message
arrives, so a new message is always unread. Messages received by midlets are
not stored anywhere except if the midlet uses the recordstore (or any other
way to store datas ;-)

3) Can we send a message just like a normal SMS and receive that on non
java phone?

If you send an sms without specifing a port it will be sent to the default
port. The receiving phone will show it in the sms inbox (j2me won't be able
to handle it)
