About beacons detection

Hi,

I'm a new placelab user and I want to locate beacons in my area.

I have a laptop with a WiFi card running on WinXP Pro SP2, I don't see 
that the stumbling program can work without a nokia serie 60 mobile 
phone, is-it right ? And is there a way to detect beacons with my laptop ?
