Re: Placelab-capable search: msg#00004

Subject: Re: Placelab-capable search

Hi James, everyone,

Thanks for testing - very good news that it works! I've now adjusted the position of the Space Needle. Cross-checking a couple of sources tells me that it's at 47.616629W and 122.354597W - not quite sure how it was wrong in the first place. Is the new co-ordinate right? For a moment I thought the Great Circle function we're using had an error in it, but I tested it and it works fine.

In the next couple of weeks I'll add a PlaceLab-capable "add your own site" page and also small-screen sites for Pocket PC/Palm and Series 60 devices.

Whilst we're on the subject of Series 60, I have a Nokia 3650. I'm using Opera browser, and have recently signed up for their "Opera Mobile Accelerator" service - see http://www.opera.com/products/smartphone/accelerator/ for details. It works quite well and, given that I pay €3/MB for GPRS data and €15/MB when roaming in other countries, has already saved me money. Is there any way of combining it with PlaceLab?

Thanks,

Sam

It works, though it thinks the space needle is only 1.5km from here. Its probably more like 8.

Hi,

We've added a PlaceLab search feature to A2B (thanks to Anthony for his assistance here!) and are looking to test it. Unfortunately I can't seem to get things running perfectly with my HP iPAQ and an 802.11 connection, so it's a bit of a "stab in the dark" unfortunately. However, I'd appreciate it if one or two people could see if it works, and if not, which errors you get. The search is at:

http://www.a2b.cc/search-placelab.a2b

The script should pick up the placelab header in the HTTP request and use it for position. I hope... ;-)

Any volunteers? If you can reply to this list, or directly to me, that would be great.

Best wishes, and thanks in advance,

Sam
