I hadn't been around JSF for about a year, so it was a pain in the rear to get 
my head back up to speed with the JSF way of doing things.

That said, I've checked in a sample app and basic implementation that has been 
run against the current MyFaces.  Installation and usage docs are included with 
the variable resolver class.

I still have an integration test on the example webapp to do, and it would be 
good if I created an RI profile in the pom so I could test against RI as well.

Its 5:00 a.m. our time, so let me know if you have problems in case I broke 
something while cleaning up.
