Starting: I've recently gotten a new XP machine, and 4.0 takes nearly 2
minutes to start.
Don't remember that it took anywhere near that time under 4.0
/win2k or 3.x/win2k.
It clocks on Starting Modules.... The other steps go lickety
split.
Attaching: When attaching using Shared Memory, one has to click on another
attach method first
in order to enter the values, which do come back with the
proper Transport and
Shared Name when Shared Memory is re-selected. I know this
didn't happen in 3.x.
jdk 1.6.0 (haven't installed u1). For reasons having to do with corp
requirements, the 'official'
release on the machine is 1.4.2_14. Jswat is started referring to the
jdk1.6 directories.

Thought for the Day:
The only thing a DBA may find interesting about our system is that the
logical and physical designs are the same. No compromises are made
translating our logical design's entities or relationships into real
tables. Nothing was denormalized. It was myth in the 90s and still is
today, even on more powerful equipment, that normalized data doesn't
perform.
