Demos do not work

Might be missing something simple. Searches the archives, no luck.

I followed the directions at
http://jetty.mortbay.com/jetty/tut/GettingStarted.html

Running the demos both with the shell script and with Ant doesn't seem
to work.  When I browse localhost:8080, I get a page with a fragment
of the banner image on the left, and the following text

"This is the default root context of the Jetty server. It's location
from the default configuration is $JETTY_HOME/webapps/root."

(This is the same test I get with I start Jetty with the run arg. 
But, in that case, the image loaded correctly.)

Anyway, there are not links to click - demo broken.

I looked in the webapps dir.  There aren't any webapps in there other
than root.  May be Jetty does some magic?  (Just considering moving
from Tomcat - way I'm running the demos.)

Please help.
