Ok, this is an older application and we do our own login stuff instead of using the container security. We just throw the fact that you are authenticated into the session. So on the login page we have the form to login, which also has a link on the nav bar to go to the login page. When I submit the login form I get the message saying I am switching to non-SSL. I noticed that if I hit the "login page" link on the login page instead of actually submitting the form I also lose SSL. If I hover my mouse over the link it has 'https' as the protocol. The strange thing that I notice was that once I am "logged in" and I change the protocol to https in the browser URL field I will stay in SSL mode after that.
