Help in Authentication

I need help in setting Authentication

1. We use Jetty as a an embedded server in our application. Like Server = new 
Server(). We have written our servlet and added to the context.

2. We want to authenticate the client before processing his request. 

How can I do that in Jetty? How the client will send his username and 
passoword so that we can verify it in the server? Can somebody please help?
