Problem is, multicast works perfectly in the same machine, if the application is run standalone. Only if it is run inside a Tomcat/AXIS web service multicast seems to break. Ah, well. This looks like a problem with Tomcat anyway. I will write a simple UDP multicast echo to see if it works. Thanks for your help.
