Hi! Ricardo,
Image segmentation is utilized in separating out a region in terms of
say, pixel intensities (color value) among other techniques. Other
options are manual selection of region and calculating the pixels
lying inside the region though this would be a very crude (read:
Un-scientific) technique.
You might like to look out for segmentation as an option. Of course, my
suggestions are more in the form of answers than solutions. The
segmentation algorithms we have written for ourselves are serving me best
for our Medical Imaging related work.
