Setting memory on OS X

Dear Friends

I am just starting with imagej so probably this is a silly question
(forgive me for that in advance). I
need to allocate more memory to imagej. Following instructions, I tried to
do so by going to Edit/
Options/Memory but instead of a dialog, a warning appears: "imagej is
unable to change memory
limit. For more information refer to the installation notes" and I have
only 160 Mb allocated. How
can I change that????
