A fix for a Java 1.4.2 failure in Mac OS X 10.3.6
After running the combo 10.3.6 update on my G4 PowerBook, I noticed that
one of my Java programs no longer functioned. In fact, running java
-version in the Terminal caused a segmentation fault! I eventually broke
down and reinstalled Java (first with the Java 1.4.2 base package, and
then with the Java 1.4.2 Update 2 package {which includes Update 1}).
This fixed the problem.
Having searched around, I eventually found some mention by other folks
of a similar circumstances, but they claim they were able to get Java
working again by just using the Java 1.4.2 Update 2 package alone.
I hope this saves some other folks some panic!
This worked for me to solve the problem.

Hello,
I'm having a problem trying to run ImageJ 1.32 on a PowerBook G4 with Mac OS X
10.3.6
Once extracted from the ij32.tar.gz file, when double-clicking on the ImageJ
icon, the application
tries to start but after a second or so it gives up.
When starting the application from the command line with
java -jar -mx256m ImageJ.app/Contents/Resources/Java/ij.jar
in the ImageJ directory, we learn that it crashes because of a segmentation
fault error.
I have a long experience in using ImageJ on Linux boxes but I'm new to Mac.
Someone is able to tell me what's going on?
