If I'm remembering correctly, Peter Kessler, lead for the Hotspot
garbage collector,
asked me about that at JavaOne 2006.
Peter, can you confirm that storing null into local variables it not
useful in Mustang?

Hi,
Does anyone know detail of the message of the
DLS_DEAD_LOCAL_STORE_OF_NULL?
---
The code stores null into a local variable, and stored
value is not read. This store may have been introduced
in assist the garbage collector, but as of Java SE 6.0,
this is no longer needed or useful.

It says that storing null does not help the garbage
collector any more in Java SE 6.0.
I cannot find any documentation about it. The bug
#6196722 may be related to this issue.

But the description in this report is too simple for
me to realize the fact.
