You don't need to use a <span> tag. Just set the Id on the <td>. In any case, all standard DOM methods are available for your use (except DOM3-specific methods, at least in XMLC-2.2.xx. Upgrade to 2.3beta if you want DOM3 functionality). For general DOM questions, there are lots of FAQs out on the net. Use a search engine and you'll find lots of them.
