Error handling

Some where in the past year, I ask about how to intercept error messages from 
the XMLC compiler for processing.  I was told that this was going to change 
in 2.2 from the way 2.1.  However, as I was using 2.1 at work, I followed 
that strategy.  Now I'm trying to upgrade to 2.2, and I'm not seeing anything 
that's really different.
