Can't compile XMLC tutorial - REException classnotfound

Searched Enhydra and XMLC archives, couldn't find reference to my
compile error.  

In XMLC tutorial, I run XMLC command against hello.html example and get:

Exception in thread main java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
gnu/regexp/REException

Am I missing an enhydra lib?  All my enhydra jars are in $JAVA/lib/ext
