AW: Dods: A love affair between a bison and an otter - Enhydra is free !: msg#00014java.enhydra.general
Hi ! Sorry for that. Maybe something went wrong. I will take care of your suggestions/fixes personally ! They are already forwarded to my developers... I think we have proven to many users around, that we are very responsive to enhancement suggestions. Sometimes it may not be easy to coordinate everything in an open source development, but we try to do our best. We will look at your suggestions / fixes within the next days, give you feedback about them and try to include them in the upcoming maintenance release 5.1-4 of DODS 5.1 and Enhydra 5.1. Hope this will improve your relationship to the (now LPGLed) otter :-) Greetings. You're referring to a "community", but I still have to see the sign of one around DODS. Or maybe I haven't looked at the the right place. In that case, please redirect me into the right direction. I know that "if you're not happy with an OSS project, contribute!" The problem (for me) is that I already have contributed and that my contributions have so far remained ignored. Certainly for good reasons, but since noone pointed them out, I can't fix them either. I would understand if I had sent a vague enhancement request but the fact is that I sent a patch to fix bugs! So if these patches for bugs are not applied, what else would? </rant> I have looked at DODS code and I think that "some" improvements could be done to make it better (I still don't know why you have to set DODS_HOME to use it. I know that you have to, but it doesn't make sense to me: You don't set LOG_4J_HOME to use log4J, so why setting DODS_HOME?). BTW I started to fix this problem but since noone will ever commit my patches (as of now), why should I care and share my modifications? Hopefully this situation will be fixed soon.
