I went through all this just like you and proposed some patches to XMLC but luckily the original XMLC author came up with a better solution and so XMLC 2.2+ works well with XHTML now. My suggestion for you is to try out latest Enhydra 5.1 that comes with XMLC 2.2. You may find it working out-of-the-box for your WML. If not, ask in the xmlc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Petr
