You're the second person to recommend that solution, yet I feel obliged to
point out that this is NOT a one-stop solution for connecting to a SQL*Server
or Access database (or any database for that matter). Instead, it's a way to
avoid having to install/administer a bunch of different client-side JDBC
drivers. This solution still requires an appropriate JDBC driver on the
server side of the RmiJdbc connection.

Which would bring us back to the poster's original question.
