Follow-up Comment #1:

The URLClassLoader should now exhibit this behaviour. file: URLs representing
directories return a list of the names of files in the directory, in the
platform encoding, separated by the platform line separator. The
Content-Length of the response is the number of bytes in this response,
rather than the "size" of the directory.
