I can't believe this is brought up again and again! You've been told many times *how easy* it is to test *without* "messing up your main dev system"! All you need is another partition, or better another (external?) hard drive. Then you simply clone your main partition to the secondary one (using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!), boot off the secondary partition, install the preview and test. Afterwards you boot your regular system, no harm done. Of course Windows can't do that. So I suppose you all got so fixated on Windows' shortcomings that you can't wrap your mind around the fact the Mac OS is *different*. Please try it, it's really simple.

Ahh! That would some unusual usage of the word "simple" that I hadn't heard of before ;-)

Meanwhile, I'm trying really hard to plug in an external fire wire disk into my aluminium MacBook, but look as hard as I can I can't find the FireWire socket!

Last time I used Carbon Copy Cloner it did a fine job, but it took many hours to copy a partition from my 30 Gb iBook. I dread to think how much time it would waste today, but I certainly can't afford to be without my Mac while it's working.

All these suggestions of virtualisation, alternative partitions, external drives etc are complete kludges which involve considerable time and disruption.

The basic truth is that OS X lacks a credible roll back system, and, yes, Windows *is* better in this respect.

Bob
