I think Your problem is servlet mapping or the lack off it... Because of 
security reasons since tomcat 4.1.12 the default configuration for 
tomcat web.xml is to comment out the "invoker servlet". You can activate 
the "invoker servlet" to get small test sevlets (velexamples) working, 
but You better read docs how to use servlet mapping in Your applications 
web.xml.
