[jQuery] Expand select's list of options programmatically

Hi,

Does anyone know of a way to programmatically expand a select
element's list of options? So, for example, you have a select with w/
5 options. You click on the element and the list of 5 options opens
and drops down. Is there a way to force this behavior
programmatically? I've tried triggering various events--or sequences
of events--using jQuery but am having no luck.
