How to not mount iPod as device in XP?

Does anyone know of a way to not have the iPod being mounted as a drive
on WinXP whenever I put it in the cradle for charging?  Without having
to swap cables, as my cables are not readily accessible for easy
swapping.

Every time I charge my iPod, it gets mounted as a drive which resets my
playlist.
