Subject: my dilemma !

Hi!

4 days ago or so I bought a 5GB iPod (newer one? it has calendar, game etc),
along with a Skymaster FireWire Card which uses the VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE
1394 Host Controller drivers under WinXP.

When I plug it in the iPod shows the apple logo, then a folder with an
exclamation mark, then Windows complains about the iPod having bad blocks etc
in the Event Viewer. When I goto Explorer, it says that the drive is not
formatted, would I like to format it now. So I click Yes, it gets all the way
through, then it gets to the end and says "Windows was unable to complete the
format."

When I try using the updater, it looks like it does it successfully, saying to
detach then reattach the iPod so it can complete it.

However, when I go back to the drive in Explorer, its still unformatted &
inaccessible. When I load up EphPod, it says its unable to write to the iPod,
and MusicMatch JB or whatever it is doesn't detect it.

I took it back to the store I got it from, and it functions OK there, and my
firewire card is the same as theirs.

I've installed that VIA PCI Latency Patch, however that doesn't solve the
problem either (else I wouldn't be writing this).

I've tried it on 2 computers, one with win2k, one with winxp, both have the
same problem - and i've taken my firewire card back to the store and exchanged
it.

The WinXP machine has a SiS730s motherboard which works fine with everything
else, and is the machine i'd like to get it working with.

If anyone has any ideas why it would be doing this i'm all ears, or i'll
probably be taking it back and forgetting about an iPod.

Thanks !
