Firewire disk access doesn't seem to work anymore on PC or Mac

I just noticed that f/w disc access doesn't seem to work any more, whether
in normal or disk mode. I've checked both my mac and pc and they both mount
standard 1394 hard drives alright. it seems to be a problem with the ipod, A
reset hasn't fixed it . it seems to be low on charge pretty quickly, but it
does charge when connected to my computer .. .please, I'd like to be able to
fix this ;p
