Battery Life

Hi All,
i recently updated my ipod to 1.2.6 software, expecting the battery miracle
this weekend i took a trip ipod fully charged before i left, listening to my 
ipod for about 3 hours, and i think 3 or 4 playlists
i went to come home sunday, and the ipod that was still on 4 bars when i locked 
it friday evening was showing the dead batterty icon now :-(
does anyone know whats going on, is my battery just worn out?
