Position Purpose (Summary):  

The Systems Operation Specialist will be responsible for designing,
configuring and maintaining server infrastructure for a growing range of
applications.  They will work to supply the needs of software and
database developers while maintaining a disciplined production
environment.  The system operations specialist will also be responsible
for documenting, tracking and providing backups for all server
applications.

 

Major Job Accountabilities:

-        Server availability

-        Event management

-        Network and system documentation

-        System backup and restoration

-        Change management

 

Requirements:

Education/Experience: 

- Bachelors degree in computer science or 2 years Linux admin experience

 

Knowledge/Technical Skills:

- Experience with Apache and J2EE application servers such as Tomcat

- Database experience, preferably PostgreSQL.

- Shell, Perl, PHP or similar scripting experience

- In-depth knowledge of GNU Linux

- Comprehensive knowledge of TCP/IP networking principles and
applications

- Competent with common Linux desktop tools (e.g. Thunderbird,
OpenOffice)

 

Abilities:

- Strong problem solving and research skills

- Must be able to participate in a 24x7 on call rotation schedule.  

- Strong organizational skills

- Good verbal and written communication skills
