This KB article explains the issue plus shows a way that you can override it
(by adding registry keys.
Their wording is a bit dificult to follow ... so here is a specific example
of what your registry would look like if you disable it.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_HTTP_USERNAME_PASSWORD_DISABLE\
then add a DWORD called IEXPLORE.EXE with value 0
and maybe also a DWORD called EXPLORER.EXE with value 0
