Well, yes it's possible to use various types of embedded radios...

However, if you're planning on selling a commercial product with an embedded
radio module (and not a device such as a radio modem), do bear in mind that
you'll need to have the whole unit FCC certified.

If it's just a private use project, you can just use an ISM band radio
modem...although most of the ISM modules don't generally have enough power
to be useful for remote telemetry applications (what's your application?).
