Hi Clayton,

I really think you should look at this from the developer's perspective. You
sold a TINIs400 development board with two serial ports, similar to the Exx
series, but the second serial port on the TINIs400 does not require the one
wire network to be disabled. It is quite reasonable for customers to think
this serial port will be supported in a timely fashion, and that in fact it
is a relatively simple job for you to add it (given the serial drivers
already exist for the other ports). Contrary to your assertion that you only
started shipping these boards in April, here is a post from February that
indicates both these boards were in use back then:
http://lists.dalsemi.com/maillists/tini/2003-February/023977.html. This
particular problem has been outstanding for the best part of 5 months, and
now you're saying it'll be 'in August' before its supported.

Well, I am a developer and my reaction to this is that you don't have the
resources allocated to support the TINIx400 properly, and that is almost as
bad as saying it's dead. This on top of the fact that at least two customers
have very real development problems due to the lack of support for this
port. Even Bruce at Systronix seems to be biting his tongue when responding
on this issue.

Like it or not this port problem will be used as a barometer by developers
to indicate your *real* level of support. They'll ask themselves "What if I
have a problem with something I could have expected to work? How long will
Dallas take to fix it, and how much time will I lose in my project
development as a result?".

You could go a long way to putting this right by adding this support in a
pre-release as soon as possible, if of course you really do have the support
resources allocated to do such things.

Mark.
