mceusb2 support for Microsoft Remote Keyboard?: msg#00030

Subject: mceusb2 support for Microsoft Remote Keyboard?

There have been some users on the mythtv-users mailing list asking about this keyboard, and since I recently acquired one as part of a system bundle, I thought I'd take it upon myself to get a definite answer about linux/lirc support for the device.

It's my understanding from searching the mailing list archives that the mceusb2 driver works fine for the remote/receiver bundle that MS sells, and that it's possible that the keyboard can be made to work. However, I'm hoping someone can tell me if the mouse embedded in the keyboard can be made to work with lircmd, and can confirm that the keyboard itself can be made to work outside of merely controlling lirc-aware programs (meaning, can lirc make it look like a real keyboard so I can use it in console mode, etc?)

My receiver also came with two IR blaster modules to plug into it, so I'm also wondering if these will work, too.

If I can't get a fully functioning keyboard/mouse out of the setup, I'd rather sell the hardware to offset the cost of my system, so I'd rather not unpack them to do much testing/tinkering only to find out that they don't work.
