What I do is use the radius filter to get areas I want to hit (yes, I have to manually tweak circle size) then convert those to routes and let S&T or the Route Optimizer in the Streepilot order them appropriately. Given how sluggish the units get with that many points in a route and how goofy they get if you veer off that route for lunch or a road closure, I've had limited success with the technique you're describing anyway.
