In formats like KML where you can have infinite freeform text describing
anything, there is a lot of latitude for things like this. We're mostly
in the conversion business; we don't try to mock all the markup from
every such program. We do some such things in KML but if you want to
mimic some other program exactly, you'll typically need to modify
GPSBabel to do it.

IIRC, there's a way you can get the total path length within Earth, but
I can't check right now...
